THE RULES OF THE GAME

This is an exhaustive explanation of all of the rules.  I recommend reading through it first, then reading the condensed version towards the end of the page.

GETTING STARTED

What you need: Deck of Uno cards, friends, beer, table, chairs, 6 tokens (can be anything...bottle caps, pennies, whatever)
Objective: To drink as much as possible.  Everyone is a winner in the game of Ocho Rojo.
Setup: Deal out all the cards in a clockwise fashion to each person.  It will probably not deal out evenly, so some people will have an extra card; that's OK.  Tokens are put in the center of the table.  Everyone should have a beer ready.  When you run out of beer, open another one.
The round ends when: The round is over when all cards have run out.  Players can choose to play another round at this point...repeat as necessary.

THE BASIC FLOW OF THE GAME

Each turn, everyone flips a card from their deck over.  Everyone should have their own draw pile and discard pile.  All prime numbers showing are added together.  The prime numbers in and Uno deck are 1, 2, 3, 5 or 7.  Everyone who drew one of the prime numbers has to drink for the TOTAL amount of primes showing.  (See: The Maximum)  For example, you draw a 1, Bob draws a 7 and Dave draws a 2.  You ALL have to drink for TEN seconds.  Those who are not drinking during that turn must count for the others.  That was a basic turn...most of the time, that is what will happen.  When everyone is finished drinking, everyone flips another card.  There are several cards that have special properties and one that modifies the action altogether.  They are listed below...

Card

Effect

Wild You receive a token.  Others must drink as normal.  There are four in the deck.
Wild Draw Four All prime numbers are added up, as usual.  This sum is doubled.  The player who drew the WDF may distribute the time to other players, however he wants to.  For example, if the total of the prime numbers is 14, you may give all 28 (14x2)seconds to Bob, or you can give 8 to Bob and 20 to Dave...get it?  There are four in the deck.  (See: The Maximum)
Red 8 (Ocho Rojo) The player who draws this card must finish their entire beer (See: Shot Option).  There are only two in the whole deck.  A token is awarded after the player finishes.  All play ceases until they're finished.  The player doesn't necessarily have to chug the whole thing at once, but they should finish it in a reasonable amount of time (See: Delay of Game).  Others must drink as normal.

All other cards Ignored.  The only cards used in the game are the primes and the cards mentioned above.  (don't take them out of the deck, they serve the purpose of giving people time to rest between drinking) Occasionally, a "dead round" will occur...resulting in no one having to drink.  These are somewhat common.

TOKENS

A token may be cashed in whenever you must drink because of drawing a prime number.  When you cash it in, you can assign your drinking time to another person.  Yes, it DOES compound.  For example, you draw a 5, Bob draws a 7, Dave draws a 6.  Normally, you and Bob would drink for 12.  If you use a token, you can make Bob drink for 24 (12+12) or you can make Dave drink for your 12 (0+12).  Dave did not have to drink, originally, because 6 is not a prime number.  If Dave would have drawn a 3, you could make him drink for 15 (3+12).

Also...the tokens must be used up before the end of the round.  There is a penalty of FIFTEEN seconds per token if you have any left when the cards run out.

A token CANNOT be used to pass off a Red Eight, time assigned to you because of a Wild Draw Four, or time assigned to you because of another token being used...you can only use it if you had to drink because of a prime number being drawn.

THE MAXIMUM

We decided on a maximum drinking time of 30 seconds, per person.  This is because most people will quit if they have to drink for any longer.  If this rule is ignored, there will be occasionally be MASSIVE drinking times...upwards of over a minute...which is almost impossible.

THE SHOT OPTION

If there is liquor available, it is permissible for the person who draws a Red Eight to take a shot instead of finish their beer.

THE PENALTIES

Penalty Name

Cause

Effect

Lazy Bitch

A person who did not have to drink, that did not count when everyone else drank.  (must start counting at least when everyone else gets to "3") Must drink for 5 seconds

Just Like a Bitch      (aka "Little Bitch")

When somebody bitches about having to drink, for whatever reason...and the majority think the player in question is supposed to drink. What they're supposed to drink + 5

Delay of Game

Someone is on the phone for 10 minutes, takes WAY too long in the bathroom, you get the picture. 15 seconds

NTCB

Not Taking Care of Business.  When a player forgets to drink when he's supposed to or runs out of beer in the middle of drinking. (He should have had another one ready) What they were supposed to drink + 5 seconds.

Disorderly Conduct

Player is way too drunk.  Knocks over table, vomits during gameplay, won't shut the fuck up, etc. Ejection from game

TCB

Taking Care of Business.  This is not a penalty...this is  something that exempts a player from having to take a penalty.  For example, you had to take a piss, finish your Ocho Rojo, answer the door or get another beer. Penalty is not enforced

All other players must count when someone is taking their penalty or else they are subject to a Lazy Bitch penalty also!

SUMMARY

(you may want to print this part)

1. All cards are divided among all players.
2. All players play 1 card per turn.
3. In a turn, all prime numbers are added together (X).
4. Unless a Wild Draw Four is drawn, all players showing a prime number drink for X.  If a WDF is drawn, X is doubled and the player that drew the WDF may distribute that time as he/she sees fit.
5. If a player draw an Ocho Rojo, he or she must finish their drink or take a shot.  A token is awarded to the player upon completion.
6. If a player draws a Wild card, a token is awarded to the player.
7. Tokens can be used to pass your drinking time to another player.  You CANNOT pass off the time if it was specifically assigned to you via a WDF, another token or an Ocho Rojo.
8. Cards not mentioned above are ignored, "dead cards" (Skip, Reverse, Draw Two, 4, 6, 8 and 9)
9. There is a maximum drinking time of 30 seconds, per person.
10. Don't forget to assign penalties.  (especially Lazy Bitch...you can often nail people with it, so pay attention!)
11. Anyone not drinking must always count, even during penalties.
12. Use your tokens before the round's over, or else you get a 15 count penalty, per token, at the end of the round.
13. A player must NEVER quit before the round is over.  If someone complains and wants to quit, it's everyone else's job to give them so much shit that they'll give in and keep playing.  Either play the whole round or don't play at all.

RULES FOR RARE SITUATIONS

These are a few rules we developed for circumstances that only come up once in a while.  You may or may not have to use them.

1. More than one Wild Draw Four is drawn.  The total of the primes is doubled, like usual...but that total must be drank by the people that DREW the simultaneous WDFs...they do not get to choose.
2. The Ocho Rojo is drawn by the same person, on two consecutive turns (i.e. one Red 8 right after another).  He/she does NOT have to drink the second Ocho Rojo.  EVERYONE ELSE in the game has to finish their drink.  No tokens are given to anybody for the second red 8.
3. Both Ochos Rojos are drawn at the same time, by two different people.  ALL other players must finish their drinks.  The people who drew the red 8s are exempt and no tokens are awarded.
